Our Dals: Service Welcome to OpalOnyx Dalmatians. We are very privileged to share our home with our Dogs. They have brought so much joy to our lives and so we are now totally committed to this wonderful breed. Our motto, as responsible breeders, is: "BREED TO IMPROVE" and we aim to find the very best fur-ever" homes for our puppies. We are not a high-volume kennel. Our dogs are all house dogs, raised with children and very well socialized. *Check out our new puppy purchase process and details prior filling out a New Application New Puppy Application WHY OUR KENNEL IS NAMED "OPALONYX"? Our first Dalmatians were black spotted, so Opal stands for the color White and Onyx for Black. As of today, we also have liver spotted Dalmatians but the name will always honor and treasure those fur-babies whom first warm our hearts. "Opalonyx" is an AKC Registered Kennel for Dalmatians , owned by Issel Rodriguez (The Breeder). Our Puppies are raised using the Puppy Culture Program , which is developed by Jane Killion, a professional dog trainer and breeder. It is a comprehensive, organized program for breeders to follow during the first weeks of a puppy’s life. The first 12 weeks of a puppy’s life are incredibly important. This is an almost magical time when a breeder has the power to change the outcome of a puppy’s life by what we choose to teach him. By doing just the right things at just the right time, we can give your puppy the best start possible. We also rescue/foster Dalmatians in need and find them new fur-ever homes. Dalmatian Resue Program IF YOU HAVE A DALMATIAN NEEDING RE-HOMING, PLEASE CONTACT US - WE CAN HELP YOU! DO NOT ALLOW THIS BEAUTIFUL BREED ENTER THE SHELTER SYSTEM. Our capacity is limited but we will do everything in our power to either receive the dog in our home or find him/her a foster placement. Rescues, Retirees & Deaf At Opalonyx Dalmatians we believe that every dog deserves to have a loving, forever home, including the breeding stock. A Guardian Home is a permanent home for one of our breeding males or females. Becoming a Guardian Home gives you the opportunity to have one of our top notch, puppies as a family pet while he or she remains in our program. Guardianship Program In addition to our Dalmatian Breeding and Rescue Programs, we also offer Boarding Services for Dalmatians (only)... OUR BOARDING SERVICES HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AS WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF MOVING TO A NEW HOME. Boarding The Breeder My name is Issel and the little guy here is my youngest son Isaac. I was born and raised in Cuba. During my childhood, my family had many German Shepherds (and their puppies), so I grew up surrounded by dogs. For no specific reason, I turned to the Dalmatian Breed and ended up falling in love with them. Occasionally, I work with the Humane Society fostering and helping dogs in need and also rescue and re-home other dogs on my own. Breeding Dogs for me, is not just a business, it is my hobby and also a way to teach my children to work, to love and to be responsible, as all of them are involved in the daily care of the puppies and adults dogs. My promise to you as a breeder, is that I will go above and beyond to produce healthy and sound puppies to become part of your family. In the process of adopting a puppy, I will be completely honest and will disclose all aspects regarding the breeding and newborns. H.E.A.R.T stands for: HEALTH: Breeding Stock are health tested in accordance with the DCA . EDUCATION: AKC - approved continuing breeder education. ACCOUNTABILITY: Compliance with the AKC Care and Conditions Policy. RESPONSIBILITY: Accepts responsibility for the health and well-being of the puppies produced and complies with all laws regarding the ownership and maintenance of dogs. TRADITION: Upholds the AKC's Tradition of breeding purebred dogs that are happy and healthy. AKC Marketplace Breeder Profile WHAT IS GOOD DOG: Good Dog is a secure online community built specifically for vetted, responsible breeders and educated buyers. They are on a mission to give responsible breeders the recognition and support they deserve. Their trusted platform promotes responsible breeding programs, educates the public, and helps potential dog owners connect directly with Good Breeders so they can avoid being misled by puppy mills and other disreputable sources – pushing the bad sources out. Transparency and accountability are the foundations of their community. Every breeder on Good Dog is individually screened and recognized for responsible breeding practices. All other babies seem healthy and nursing good. 07/27/2023 - Dewclaws have been removed and sent to the lab for DNA testing in order to determine whom are the carriers of the LUA gene. Results should be available in 7-10 business days. 07/30/2023 - Puppies are 1 week of age. All are gaining weight consistently, although the Pink Collar is the only one that still is under a pound. She seems healthy and active, she is just small. 08/01/2023 - DNA Results have been received. 6 of 11 puppies are carriers of the LUA gene. Notification sent by email. See Genetic Testing Report bellow. Grease Litter DNA Reports for HUU .pdf Download PDF • 1.67MB 08/04/2023 - Pink collar is officially over a pound of weight. While she still the smallest in her litter, I am very happy with her development. 08/06/2023 - Two weeks of age, first deworming completed, weights recorded. Puppies are starting to walk. Their eyes are opening - It will take about a couple of more weeks to know for sure what color are their eyes. 08/08/2012 - Nails trimmed. 08/13/2023 - 3 weeks of age. All the puppies have now their eyes fully open and are walking, are starting to bark and playing with each other. Only one of the puppies have a blue eye, the orange collar. They all seem to respond to noises, so I am certain, none of them are deaf bilaterally. However, unilateral deafness is also common and can only be determined at the hearing test (BAER Test), which will be completed next month. The pink collar still very tiny compared to her littermates. She continues to develop at her own very rate (a bit slower but acceptable, considering she is the runt). This coming week, we will attempt to get them started on solid food, which for now consist in a blend of puppy formula, kibble and pumpkin puree. 08/20/2023 – First vet visit completed (House Call); deworming med administered. All puppies seem healthy and growing. Pink Collar has made a tremendous progress. She is active and feisty. Black Collar (male) is sick, he has some fever, looks like a flu. Vet prescribed antibiotics and we will keep him isolated for now. He has appetite but is not holding down the food. 08/21/2023 – Both litters are out of the whelping boxes and roaming free in the pen. Going forward, all new pictures and videos (both litters together) will be uploaded in a new Google Album (link bellow) 08/22/23 – Black Collar is better. No more fever. Seems more alert and playful. Continues in isolation but is eating now and holding food down. 08/24/2023 – Black collar is back in the crowd. He missed some growing while sick, but I am sure he will catch up soon. He stole the “runt crown” from Pink! 08/25/2023 - Shoutout sent via email to all new puppy owners. 09/05/2023 - BAER Test has been completed. All puppies have normal hearing in both ears (Yayyyy!!) • StandByMe Litter

StandByMe Litter FULLY ADOPTED All Blue Texts are hot-links. Scroll down for "The Google Photo Button" for more pictures of parents and puppies (when born) Last Updated: July 5, 2024 at 6:15:51 PM Why we named this litter "StandByMe" ? Well, lets start by the beginning.... The name of the litter is in the memory of "Grandpa Elliott" and to honor his legacy. "Grandpa Elliott Small" is a well-known New Orleans musician who could regularly be seen in his signature blue overalls, red shirt and floppy hat playing on the streets of the French Quarte. He was born in New Orleans and spent most of his life here. Small picked up the harmonica when he was young, and played and sang in the French Quarter for close to 70 years, holding a regular spot at the corner of Toulouse and Royal streets. In 2008, Small sang on a rendition of "Stand By Me," which featured street musicians from around the world. The video for the song went viral. The recording of "Stand By Me" was part of producer Mark Johnson's Playing For Change, a global multimedia project promoting music education. Following "Stand By Me," Small joined the Playing For Change band and toured internationally, including dates with Robert Plant and appeared on "The Tonight Show" and "The Colbert Report." When he returned home, Small also was invited to play the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. More than a decade ago, Small's eyesight began to fail and he became blind. He continued playing on French Quarter streets before the pandemic paused the music. "People spot me all the way from Canal Street in my red shirt," Small told The Times-Picayune, "and they start shouting, 'There's Grandpa! There's Grandpa!'" #grandpaelliott #Standbyme If interested, please fill out the Puppy Questionnarie in order to be considered to adopt one of these puppies. The first puppy was born at 11am, and the last one at 3:30 am (next day). All puppies seem to be in good health and nursing already. 07/29/2023 - Phoebe is being a great mom, although, she is not producing enough milk/colostrum to keep her babies satisfied, so we will be tube-feeding every few hours and keeping tracking of their weights more often than usual to make sure they are developing ok. 7/31/2023 - Dewclaws have been removed. All puppies continue to gain weight consistently. 08/04/2023 - Puppies are 1 week of weight today. Weights have been recorded, Most have doubled their birth weight. 08/08/2023 - DNA test result received. 5 out of 11 puppies are LUA. Shoutout sent to puppy owners by email. See DNA reports bellow. DNA Test Reports - StandByMe Litter .pdf Download PDF • 879KB 08/11/2023 - Puppies are 2 weeks of age. Nails were trimmed, weights recorded and they had their first dosage of dewormer. They are opening their eyes and starting to take their first steps. All puppies continue to grow and develop satisfactory. 08/16/2023 – Hearing Test and Final Vet appointment have been scheduled. 08/21/2023 – Yellow-multi collar is deaf (Bilaterally). Deaf dogs are as smart as any hearing dog, however, they do require different kind of training and approach. It is easy for us to determine fully deaf puppies as they don’t respond to noises. However, unilateral deafness can only be determined at the BAER test. Both litters are now out of the whelping boxes and roaming free in the play pen. In the play pen, they have a doggie door leading to the turf enclosure. They should soon learn to go outside to potty. Multi -Color Collar has one blue eye. 08/25/2023 - Shoutout sent via email to all new puppy owners. 09/19/2023 - Hearing Test done.
